Diablo II Hero Editor not working?

I downloaded it, I changed my file so it isn't read-only and I could save the characters, I have Hero Editor v1.04 & Diablo II LOD v1.13(latest), but I save the file with the edits, and I open up the game and nothing changed my character...I go back to hero editor, and when I open the file, it shows that it saved it from last time I made changes, yet nothing happens to my character
